Panther ID
  • A unique 7-digit number assigned to every individual or external organization in PantherSoft
  • This number is used as a Primary Search Key (similar to the use of the Social Security Number in the old system)
  • You may also hear this referred to as the ID or EmplID

  • The PantherSoft terminology for the Social Security Number
Individual's 9-digit Social Secuirty Number
Name, Address, Email and Phone Types
  • PantherSoft allows FIU to maintain different types of Names, Addresses, Phone and/or Email Addresses
  • The PantherSoft Standards Committee has defined the use for each type

    -see Appendix for all values and definitions

Bio/Demo Data
  • Terminology that represents the collective personal information about an individual
  • Your security access establishes how much
This information can be accessed through many different paths in the system
Effective Date
  • PantherSoft allows us to build and retain historical information
  • When a record has an effective date, that is the date the information on that page is considered "Current" by the system
  • PantherSoft allows us to enter future-dated records

Academic Careers represent the collection of academic course work that would appear grouped together in a single academic transcript

Academic Programs

An Academic Program is what the student applies to, is admitted into and ultimately graduates from.

At FIU we use the level, the degree being pursued and the college offering the program.

  • LDBAS = Lower Division Bachelors Arts & Sciences
  • GRDED = Graduate Doctoral Education
Academic Plans

An Academic Plan is an area of study within an Academic Program, with one degree or certificate per plan.

At FIU this includes majors, intended majors, affiliates, second majors and minors

  • Bachelors in Nursing
  • Masters in Music
Academic Sub -Plan

A Sub-Plan is an area of further specialization within an Academic Plan.

At FIU Sub Plans include tracks, concentrations, specializations and options.

  • Concentration in Jazz Performance
  • Track in International Economics
Admit Term
  • Term of intended entry
  • The first digit represents the 21st century (1---)
  • The next two digits represent the year (104-)
  • The last digit represents the term (1031/1035/1038)
  • Spring = 1; Summer = 5; Fall =8
  • 1048 represents the Fall Term in 2004
  • Concentration in Jazz Performance
  • Track in International Economics
3 C's
Communications, Checklists and Comments - Ways to track and analyze correspondence (incoming and outgoing), lists of requirements and notes about individuals

Matriculate
This means that applicant is ready to register for classes
