Florida International University takes your privacy seriously. This overview should help you understand Florida International University’s key privacy practices for the FIU Mobile app.

University Mobile Privacy Policy Statement

In order to develop targeted content for the FIU visitor, the university collects personally unidentifiable information such as: browser type and version, the operating system of the device, the Internet Service Provider used to connect to the Internet, the pages in the app accessed, the links accessed, buttons pressed and third-party apps opened during a visitor session.

The FIU Mobile app may also employ “cookies,” which allows access to the Web server to better tailor the content of the app to a visitor’s specific browsing needs. The cookies used on the FIU Mobile app contain no personally identifiable information unless that information is provided directly via site form, survey or other opt-in method. While a Web browser does not need to have cookies enabled to browse the FIU Mobile app, specific site features may require that cookies are enabled.

Personal Information Collection

The FIU Mobile app does not collect, rent, sell, or share any of the following information:

  • Location Information: You must first provide permission through your device before FIU Mobile obtains location information from technologies like GPS, Wi-Fi, or cell tower proximity. You are able to withdraw your permission for FIU Mobile to acquire location information from your device using your device settings. FIU Mobile uses the information from within the app only to display your physical location on maps and display distances from certain locations.
  • Contact List: You must first provide permission through your device before FIU Mobile obtains access to the contact list on your device. You are able to withdraw your permission for FIU Mobile to acquire contact information from your device using your device settings. FIU Mobile’s sole purpose for contact list access is to allow the creation of contacts from the FIU Mobile Directory and to avoid creating duplicate contacts.
  • Calendar: You must first provide permission through your device before FIU Mobile obtains access the device’s interactive calendar add page. You are able to withdraw your permission for FIU Mobile to acquire the calendar from your device using your device settings. FIU Mobile uses the calendar’s interactive add page to add an event to your calendar.

Third Party Apps, Links, and Widgets

Third party apps, links, and widgets may also set cookies. Please note that third parties’ use of cookies and information that you provide to them is subject to their own privacy policies, and not the FIU Mobile Privacy Policy.
